You’re going to want to zoom in on this one.
We wanted the reader to really get a sense of scale for Sactown magazine‘s August/September 2014 feature on rock climber Alex Honnold. I used negative space, subtle shadowing to give the headline a sense of floating 3-dimensionalty and a subtle nudge with it’s placement to lead the reader to look closer to see the tiny figure scaling the impossibly sheer wall in this beautiful photo by the incredible Max Whittaker . I would make the spread bold through subtlety and trust the reader to follow. To that end I also set this text’s baseline as a throughline directly into the story’s beginning on the next page.
